The larger patterns generated by the design of the railings have their
inspiration in wave forms...rendered illusionistically through the spacing of the bars
in the flat plane of the railing.

The Edgerton Street Bridge - Cast concrete, steel. Vadnais Heights,
Minnesota. 2005.

The larger patterns generated by the design of the railings have their
inspiration in wave forms (as in wind across grasses or the ripple of a
water surface), rendered illusionistically through the spacing of the bars
in the flat plane of the railing. Seen from the highway below or the
pedestrian path, the patterns shift in appearance depending upon one's
vantage point. The imagery in the concrete designs below the railings is
also drawn primarily from native plant species, showing an oak leaf,
cottonwood leaf, pine bough, and cattail.

LA Metro Gold Line Foothills Extension Detail

LA Metro Gold Line Foothills Extension
City of Duarte Station
Projected completion date: 2009

The artists have been selected to create site-specific artwork for the station in the City of Duarte, CA, as part of the expansion of Los Angeles' light rail system. Preliminary schematic designs draw inspiration from the adjacent City of Hope medical campus, and the area's rich history as a location of native Gabrieleno/Tongva dwellings and later occupation as the Rancho de Duarte.

Reflect/Radiate/
Accumulate
Detail

Reflect/Radiate/Accumulate
Artwork for Cleveland State University's Law Library
Projected completion date: Fall 2006.

This sculpture group of two large natural boulders carved with abstract water patterns and a water-jet cut metal element make reference to characteristics of the law: that law is a reflection of the society which creates it, that a single case can have effects far beyond an original ruling, and that the body of case law grows and accumulates over time. The completed work will function as sculptural seating, and will occupy a contemplative courtyard accessible to students and prominently visible from interior reading rooms.

Cell Wall and
Microbial Relief
Detail

Cell Wall and Microbial Relief
University of Wisconsin, Madison campus

Projected completion date: 2007

The imagery in these sketches is drawn from the work taking place at the UW Madison Microbial Sciences department. The forms of microscopic organisms are enlarged and carved in a relief panel made of slate, the traditional material of classroom chalkboards. Cell Wall is a sculptural seating installation for the entry of the new microbial science building. Carved of Indiana limestone, the 60' long seating wall plays with notions of scale, dramatically enlarging a portion of a cellular membrane and illustrating a number of cellular processes along its length.
